What is it?

Mahāmudrā, or the Great Seal, refers to the nature of all phenomena that is figuratively stamped upon everything as a guarantee that nothing exists the fantasized, impossible way that it appears.  It includes the sophisticated systems of meditation to on the conventional and ultimate natures of the mind.

The main instructions focus on techniques for meditating upon the mind in order to achieve one-pointed concentration and attain a realization of the mind’s ultimate nature. The direct, unmistaken antidote to ignorance, to suffering, and to the unenlightened state of existence is Mahāmudrā meditation.

Ven. René Feusi, one of the most senior monastics in the FPMT, will lead this retreat focusing on putting into practice the Mahamudra instructions given by Gyumed Khensur Rinpoche in his commentary (Oct. 22-26).  It is an excellent way to experientially gain an understanding of Mahamudra, resting in the clear light mind.

This retreat is not open to those who are doing the practice of Shugden (which has been strongly discouraged by His Holiness the Dalai Lama).

Teacher Bio

Venerable Rene Feusi

VenRene Venerable René Feusi has been trained in the Gelugpa tradition of Tibetan Buddhism in the experiential lineage of Lama Yeshe and Lama Zopa Rinpoche. He has been sharing this experiential approach for over 25 years. He helps students get an intuition of their own inner potential and inspires them to become mediators themselves. For the past 6 years Ven. René has been searching out optimal conditions to engage in a long term retreat, while spending the majority of his time in partial retreat. Venerable René's fascination for how the mind works and how it can be positively transformed is infectious, "Life is exciting. The spiritual journey is about becoming a better human being and giving our lives far reaching meaning. The whole spiritual work is challenging, it's creative and it's fun."

Instead, we invite you to consider bringing a cash donation with you to express your gratitude for the teachings. (Participants get a chance to present a cash offering to the teachers on the last day of the retreat and this is supplemented by a donation from Vajrapani Institute.)
