“We can develop our consciousness to the limitless states of universal compassion, love, wisdom and freedom. The Vajrasattva practice can lead us beyond ego, beyond grasping, and beyond the dualistic mind. That’s what the Vajrasattva practice is about.” - Lama Yeshe
This event is freely offered. Students are welcome to make donations to help support this event.
Prerequisites to attending this event:
There are no prerequisites for attending this initiation; it is open to all who are able to take on the following commitments.
Commitments from attending this event:
To take the initiation one will have to take refuge at the beginning. This is the basis of the initiation. Taking Bodhisattva vows is also required, but students do not have to take tantric vows (generally students should take tantric vows for a highest yoga tantra initiation, but Lama Yeshe chose not to, and Rinpoche follows Lama’s example).
On top of taking these vows as part of the initiation, Rinpoche often gives the following commitment: 21 long mantras or 28 short mantras every day for the rest of your life (these mantras and practice booklets will be handed out after the initiation for those who need), or 100,000 mantra retreat within one year (generally this takes 3 months to complete).
*Please note that this event could go late, so keep this in mind when making plans for the following day.
Initiation Venue
The event will NOT be held at Vajrapani Institute but at the Recreation Hall (RecHall) in Boulder Creek.
The RecHall is behind the Boulder Creek Fire Station which is on the main street, also opposite the Rainbow's End Coffee Shop at the corner of Highway 9 and Middleton Avenue.
The address is: 13333 Middleton Avenue, Boulder Creek, CA, 95006

Many of you are coming from San Francisco or San Jose area. Some of you are flying in on the day. We're getting calls daily from people looking for rides so PLEASE if you're planning to come from afar and have space, go online and offer up your space.
Vajrapani Accommodation
Because of the change of venue, if you decide NOT to stay on the land as planned, it's really important you tell us by emailing office@vajrapani.org. If we don't hear from you, we'll assume you are staying on the land. If you've waitlisted, you'll be contacted if a bed frees up. Again, if you've signed up to stay in the dorm, or to camp, or have put yourself on a waitlist and have now decided to stay somewhere else, it's imperative you tell us by emailing office@vajrapani.org.
Plan to arrive at Vajrapani Institute between 3-5pm for accommodation registration - no earlier than 3pm please as we have a retreat ending that afternoon. If you've been here before and are very familiar with the land, you can just show up after the initiation. No staff will be on hand to orient you in the middle of the night so please bring your flashlights.
Carpooling between Vajrapani and the venue will be organized onsite.
Check out time is 10am on Monday October 1. Plan to have breakfast in town or bring snacks as no breakfast will be provided on the land.
Remember to bring a good flashlight and warm clothing.
