Working and Growing

We are first and foremost a spiritual community. When you join our team you will:

  • Participate in a mindful and contemplative work culture
  • Have access to staff classes and our regular program
  • Be able to get involved in group meditations and practices

Gandhi the Spiritual Program Coordinator in the Santa Cruz MountainsThis center is a sacred place that people from all over the world come to in order to find inner peace. It is a genuine honor to be part of our small team.

“I felt like a new person after living at Vajrapani Institute. I arrived looking for a break in my life, to reestablish my inner balance. Vajrapani was such a great place for that. Living in a spiritual community helped me to open myself to others. All my actions, from closing a door mindfully to enjoying and respecting the silence of others, would have a deep repercussion on every member of the community. I couldn´t think only of myself anymore. Also, I had the opportunity to have a deeper taste of meditation practice. The strong energy of the place was ideal to go through some inner processing. I am deeply thankful for the generosity of the lamas and the staff.

Our Community

Vajrapani was built by the wonderfully devoted students of Lama Thubten Yeshe, many of whom still live nearby. When you join our team, you also join the Vajrapani Community which consists of thousands of people all over the world.

Living in community in such an isolated place also creates long-lasting friendships and a real sense of teamwork. Coworkers feel more like family, and everyone contributes what they can above and beyond what is required.  The “Pamily Peeling” Lama Yeshe spoke of still lives on and prospers at Vajrapani.

  • Possess strong communication skills
  • Be content with rugged and rustic conditions
  • Be comfortable with prolonged relative isolation
  • Have a mature personal spiritual practice
  • Possess an attitude of altruism and generosity
  • Be proactive and organized

Being a Buddhist is not a requirement for working here. We welcome practitioners from all traditions.
