Course Overview
The Nyung Nae is a 2-day practice done in relation to Chenrezig, the Buddha of Compassion. It is a powerful, quick and effective method to purify an enormous amount of negativity and collect a vast amount of merit (positive potential).
Nyung Naes offer a great opportunity to create more peace and compassion in your heart and mind. It involves meditating on bodhicitta (the aspiration to attain enlightenment in order to benefit all beings), visualizing Chenrezig, reciting prayers and mantras, and performing prostrations.
This practice is extremely effective for people with serious illnesses, such as cancer. There are many stories of people being healed. Even if the illness does not go away and one dies (which is inevitable for all of us), having performed Nyung Naes can allow for a peaceful and joyous death.
According to Lama Zopa Rinpoche, 40,000 eons of negative karma get purified by doing one Nyung Nae, and one is guided by Chenrezig in all lifetimes. We are immensely fortunate to have access to this practice, due to the kindness of our lineage teachers.
We are delighted to host a series of Nyung Naes led by Ven. Sarah Thresher. She has said about this coming retreat: “Nyung Naes will be led using Lama Zopa Rinpoche’s chanting and instructions based on the recent Mani Retreat (France, 2009) and also advice from Rinpoche's recent teachings in North Carolina (2009) on bodhicitta, mindfulness, etc. It would be good if people could take time to memorize the long Chenrezig mantra--that will make the retreat easier for them. Also the names of the 35 Buddhas. If they can do this they will get more benefit."
